MAGICA

Maximizing the synergy of European research Governance and Innovation for Climate Action

MAGICA is a 4-year transnational Coordination and Support Action (CSA), funded by Horizon EU and launched in June 2022.

The ongoing climate crisis is affecting mankind globally. Climate science plays a tremendous role in coping with the challenges induced by global climate change and in developing solutions for a climate resilient development beyond national levels. International networks of science, policy and society can support national climate action in bringing them on an international level and fostering the deployment of synergies between climate change research and innovation initiatives and infrastructures across the European Research Area (ERA). MAGICA seeks to maximize these synergies by supporting and developing the international and European climate research and policy agenda. For this, MAGICA strongly supports and strengthens the exchange of knowledge from research and innovation to inform and support policy-making and climate actions by providing the scientific and strategic arena for the assessment of recent R&I outcomes, the discussion of emerging climate R&I priorities and the iteration of the next Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda on climate change for ERA 2025-2034. To strengthen the exchange between science, policy and society MAGICA will provide exchange platforms and organizes European climate events, such as the EQUINOX Summit in 2023, ECCA (European Climate Change Adaption) Conferences in 2023 and 2025, Climate Neutrality Forums and the Sea Level Rise Conference (with JPI Oceans).

Dr. Giulia Galluccio from the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC) is leading the project.

As one of 24 partners from 13 countries GERICS is working in WP 3 and WP 4 supporting the organization of European conferences, such as the ECCA 2023 and 2025, the Climate Neutrality Forum and several stakeholder workshops. Furthermore, GERICS is contributing to updating JPI Climate’s Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda on climate change for ERA 2025-2034.
