Dr. Irem Isik Cetin has been selected to receive the 2024 EAWE Scholarship, awarded by the European Academy of Wind Energy (EWEA). She is currently working in the ‘KliWiST’ project since September 2023 and investigating the impacts of climate change on low wind events over Germany and Europe by using regional climate models.

In the ‘KliWiSt’ project, GERICS is jointly investigating the influence of climate change on wind energy site assessment in the coming decades with Fraunhofer IWES. Recommendations for prospective determination of yield assessments for wind farms will be derived within this project which is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWK) until the end of 2024.

This scholarship will support her to participate at the Wind Energy Science Conference (WESC) in Nantes in June 2025, where she plans to present the project's final and further outcomes and ongoing developments to the wind energy academy and broader community by using state of art regional climate models.

EAWE is supporting emerging talents in the field of wind energy with EAWE Scholarship Scheme. This initiative is designed to support participation in the Wind Energy Science Conference 2025, the upcoming EAWE PhD Seminars, or contribute towards publication fees in the Wind Energy Science Journal. The scholarship is given to ten PhD students or early career scientists for each year at all topics.
