News and info from the COP26

The world climate summit in Glasgow, the COP26, will take place from 29 October to 12 November. Specifically, the further implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015 will be negotiated in Glasgow, in which the almost 200 signatory states committed to keeping global warming well below 2 degrees Celsius, if possible even to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

What is at stake?

The COP26 in Glasgow is primarily about defining and adopting binding rules for individual projects of the Paris Agreement. In particular, Article 6 of the Paris Agreement is the focus of the negotiations - it is the last major open point. Among other things, it should make it possible for emission reductions to be transferred between states and to be counted towards national climate protection targets. Furthermore, transparency rules, a common timeframe, market mechanisms for international emissions trading and the question of climate financing for developing countries are being negotiated.
