Climateurope Festival 2020

Climate Information at Your Service, will be held virtually!

The Climateurope festivals are a series of events dedicated to further the dialogue between science and society, supporting Climate Services at the European and national levels.

The previous two festivals which took place in Valencia and Belgrade were hugely successful face-to-face events where researchers, suppliers and users of climate information came together to share best practices, gaps recommendations and to discover the state of the art about climate observations, modelling, and services.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic we have cancelled the face-to-face Climateurope festival originally planned to be held in Latvia this month. We have also decided that to rule out the option of holding a physical festival for the foreseeable future, due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding travel and health risks.

We are pleased to announce that the third Climateurope Festival in 2020 will be held virtually!

The third festival of Climateurope will now be a series of virtual festivals/events, or as we like to call them Webstivals (web – festivals). Each webstival will be a virtual meeting lasting 3-4 hours on a single day, with multiple webstival events planned over the course of summer and autumn 2020. The webstival series is open for researchers, suppliers, users, and funders all over Europe, and the World!

We will start with a kick-off webstival on the 18th June 2020 (find out more information and how to register here), with subsequent events over the next few months.

Our webstival agenda (take a look at the agenda here) will be a mix of plenary talks and virtual rooms/spaces where you can discuss the talks and event, or just take the opportunity to make new connections, and engage with old friends and colleagues! To keep that festival feel we also have some fun and interactive events running throughout the day including a photography competition and a local ingredient/low carbon recipe sharing space and more! We want to ensure that we keep that festival feeling in a virtual world!

This virtual approach consisting of a series of webstivals will allow us to develop the delivery of the virtual festival over time, developing innovative new ways of engaging with YOU our project partners, members, and audience. We want to ensure that we keep that festival feeling in a virtual world! This first Webstival will also be an opportunity to learn how to run virtual festivals, so please bear with us and help us make these successful!

We hope to see you all virtually in June! Please follow our Twitter account, LinkedIn Group and keep a check on your inboxes for more announcements and information about the upcoming Climateurope webstival series!
